Crisis Zone is a spin-off of the popular Time Crisis arcade shooters, released on March 29, 1999. In the UK and the US, a PlayStation 2 (PS2) remake of the game was released in 2004 with more detailed polygons and textures, increased difficulty, redone voice acting, and an additional mission taking place six months after the Crisis Zone Arcade mode. The PS2 port is compatible with the GunCon (G-Con 45 in Europe) and Guncon 2 lightguns. It includes an unusual two-player cooperative gameplay mode known as “two-gun mode,” which allows two players to play simultaneously in a single-player mode without the use of a split-screen or weapon-switching system (similar to Time Crisis 3, with some differences) that allows the player to switch between a fully automatic machine gun, a standard 8-round handgun, and a 6-round shotgun, d Unlike in Time Crisis 3 and Time Crisis 4, where only the firearm has unlimited ammunition and other weapons must be replenished by shooting specific enemies, all weapons in Crisis Zone now have unlimited ammunition, though they must all be reloaded. As with the PlayStation 2 versions of Time Crisis II and Time Crisis 3, players can access the Crisis Mission exercise menu by playing for an extended period. Time Crisis: Crisis Zone is the title of the PS2 remake in the United States.
